Megan Simmons

Head Of Strategy, Student Voice

Megan Simmons is a 20-year-old student at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City, where she is studying Sociology and Education Studies. Megan is the Director of Strategy for Student Voice, the nation’s largest by-students, for-students nonprofit organization leading and strengthening the movement of young people taking action on issues that most impact their education. As Head of Strategy, Megan oversees Student Voice’s programs and strategic initiatives. During 2019, she is leading the Student Voice Tour Across America, visiting middle and high schools across the country each week and working with students and teachers to increase the voices of students in their schools. In six months, through this tour, Megan has worked with over 1,000 students and 200 teachers and administrators.

Additionally, Megan has been a Forest Foundation Fellow, a Student Advisor for The New Teacher Project (TNTP), a Strategic Planning Intern at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Headquarters (JDRF), and an EdSurge Independent Fellow. Megan first became involved in youth activism after being the youngest Organizing Fellow on the Hillary Clinton Campaign in South Carolina in 2015 and 2016 and is passionate about using education and schooling as a means to create accessible paths to activism and civic engagement for young people.
